In this article, we characterize the Research in Science Education for Individuals with Special Educational Needs based on the academic production published in national scientific periodicals (magazines) in the area of Science Education, in the period 1979 to 2010. The methodology used included routines of bibliographical and documentary research. The results highlight recurring themes, tendencies and topics insufficiently explored.
