The health care funding system in Nigeria is predom inantly from general taxation by the government which is never sufficient for the provision of good health care service delivery in the country. It is presently facing numerous challenges. This paper se ts out to critically review the Nigerian health car e funding system and how it compares to the experienc es in South Africa, some European countries and United State of America. It will also highlight the challenges facing the Nigerian health care funding system and recommend ways of tackling them.
